Thought for the day, 6 March 2023
She won't ever know, but she paved the way for my kid, because she expanded the horizons of that kid's mum.
She was never to be reduced to a single thing, an identity, an obliging tick in a two-dimensional box. Trans and a leader. Trans and a powerhouse. Trans and principled, resilient, funny; an open heart worn on her sleeve, as if her body could not quite contain it.
I always think of her that day on Parliament grounds, standing her ground against Destiny Church, facing them down, rip-shit-and-bust unafraid like only those with the deepest convictions can be.
I don't know where the soul goes, wahine toa, but wherever you are, may you rark up Brian Tamaki until the end of time.
Haere rā, Georgina Beyer.
